SUN SHINES FOR OPENING CEREMONY OF NATIONAL 18'S CHAMPIONSHIPS
The sun came out for the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 National 18 Years and under Championships this morning.
The ceremony was an opportunity to kick off the tournament as well as sending off the Australian representative players that will be going to South Africa for the 2007 World Cup.
The Mayor of Coffs Harbour, the Hon. Mr Keith Rhoades welcomed the players and officials to Coffs Harbour and wished them the best of luck.
South Sydney Rabbitohs player and ex-Australian Touch representative Joe Williams reminisced about his favorite and not so favorite memories from his time playing at the National 18’s.
He described “Getting beaten by Queensland,” as the moment which stands out most to him, when playing for NSWCCC his team were narrowly beaten by one touchdown by QSST.
NSWTA General Manager and Australian Women’s 20’s Coach, Dean Russell addressed the players about representing your country, describing the passion and pride involved with being involved in an Australian team.
Team captains were then given an opportunity to sign two Boxing Kangaroo flags which will be presented to the Australian World Cup sides before they compete in South Africa.
These flags will be in the merchandise area for all players, officials and spectators to leave messages of support for our Aussie teams.
